Kilimanjaro

At 19342 feet (5895 m) Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest peak and the world’s tallest free-standing mountain. We highly recommend Lemosho route, as it passes through every ecological zone on Kilimanjaro, while providing climbers incredible views. Additionally, Lemosho is great for acclimatization and, therefore boasts higher success rates. Kilimanjaro climbs start at $2,140, and group discounts are available.

Ol Doinyo Lengai

It's no wonder Ol Doinyo Lengai means Mountain of God in the Maasai language. Although only 9711 feet (2960 m) at its peak, the mountain strikes an imposing view over Lake Natron, and is the only active volcano in the world which produces natrocarbonatite lava. Lengai is a quick (but admittedly precarious) climb. We love this mountain as it offers extreme adventure in one of our favorite areas of Tanzania. We recommend Lengai to adventure-seekers who can build the climb into travel off the beaten track.
