Experience Tanzania with Red Knot Safari Company.

We provide customized travel experiences with emphases on cultural learning, active holidays, and adventure.

Walking Safaris

There is something magical about viewing wildlife while walking on your own two feet, experiencing the geography of a place under your own power. Consider making your Tanzanian safari about getting back to nature with our experienced staff and guides.

Staff recommendation: Explore the dry season river systems and wildlife of the vast Ruaha in a multi-day hike.

Running and Cycling

Red Knot Safari Company was born out of Red Knot Racing Company, the premier endurance racing company in Tanzania. We ourselves are avid endurance athletes and would love to help you experience our beautiful country in running shoes or by mountain bike.

Staff recommendation: You and your friends run a couple of days on Mount Kilimanjaro, and then cycle our K2N race course in a private tour.

Climbing and Trekking

Summit Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain at 5895 m (19342 ft), or make it a full trio of northern Tanzania peaks by adding Mount Meru and Ol Doinyo Lengai. We also arrange non-climbing treks if you’d like to get off the beaten track for a few days.

Staff recommendation: 2-day trek from Ngorongoro Crater to Lake Natron, and then a quick climb of Ol Doinyo Lengai, the “Mountain of God” (pictured).

Cultural Experiences

Tanzania is rich with culture and tradition, boasting more than 120 different people groups. Red Knot Safari Company feels strongly that understanding a place requires understanding the people in that place. “A stranger has big eyes but doesn’t see very far.”

Staff recommendation: Visit the Hadza, one of the last hunter-gatherer tribes on earth, and learn archery, tracking, and digging for tubers.

Educational Tours

Whether you are interested in music, art, history, geography, or biology, we can ensure your time in Tanzania is the learning experience you desire. Shorter educational opportunities and museum visits can be built into your itinerary, and in some cases we can arrange courses for university credit.

Staff recommendation: The Serengeti for biology, followed by a history of early humans at Olduvai Gorge and then geology at Ngorongoro Crater.

Service Learning

Red Knot Safari Company and Red Knot Development are fully committed to making the world a better place, and we actively pursue that end. Enrich your own Tanzanian experience by combining travel with service to others in the areas of sport, agriculture, clean energy, or clean water.

Staff recommendation: Assist in the distribution of subsidized water filters or solar lights en route to hot springs and waterfall hikes at Lake Natron.

Family Travel

Red Knot’s owners and staff have extensive experience living and traveling internationally with children, and we understand what is required for your family to enjoy the journey and the experience.

Staff recommendation: For young children, Tarangire National Park and Ngorongoro Crater make for a great 3-4 days of wildlife viewing with shorter drives. Then go to the beach in Zanzibar!

Luxury Experience

Your Tanzanian safari is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Why not treat it like one? Indulge yourself; travel in comfort and sleep in luxury with Red Knot Safari Company.

Staff recommendation: You literally can’t go wrong with our preferred luxury accommodation provider Nomad Tanzania — throw a dart at the map of Tanzania, and treat yourself to true luxury.

Student Groups

With 10 years of experience arranging travel for student groups in Tanzania, whether your goals are to climb Kili or study international development, we take the stress out of large group travel.

Staff recommendation: Do a little bit of everything —. intro to worldview classes, Maasai boma visit, coffee farm tour, Ngorongoro by vehicle, Tarangire by foot, and Arusha National Park by canoe.

We believe a quality safari is a customized safari. We can include any number of personal goals and objectives in your tailor-made travel itinerary.
